Public Speaking

“A Tale to Tell” and “Fast Fashion” were the two topics that the St John Paul College Senior Public Speaking team explored in their regional finals. Mae White from Year 12 and Lilly Gleeson from Year 10 represented the College competing against schools from as far away as Forbes. Lilly’s entertaining speech about the hidden meanings of fairy tales took her through to the country finals competing against representatives from Wollongong, Newcastle, Armidale and Port Macquarie where she missed out on moving into the State final in Sydney.

Our Junior team will have a lot to live up to as they enter the first round of competition to represent the school on 30 July. The students are starting to prepare their speeches which already cover diverse topics such as “Should We Live Forever?”, “Standardised Education is Deeply Flawed” and “Video Games: A Sporting Sensation” are some of the topics that are going to be explored making for an entertaining day for our school judges. Good luck to Samara Satyanand, Alexandra Nealand, John Hughes, Chelsea Bird and Tully Gennat.

Thank you to the English department for their ongoing support particularly our school judges, Janine Sawtell and Ngahine Munokoa.
