Reflection Garden
Giinagay Ngujawiny
The St John Paul College reflection garden has undertaken some renovation works and we are thrilled with the results!
The College Maintenance team of Kris, Rod and Dan have been working with Aunty Vicki to transform the space into a relaxing, quiet and peaceful environment for staff and students to sit, reflect and pray.
The garden makeover has been created using locally sourced raw materials from Gumbaynggirr Country.
The Cross is made out of local hardwood and has been positioned in the garden so there is a direct line of sight linking it to the College Chapel.
The base of the garden is compacted crushed sandstone, with sandstone pavers leading to the sandstone block seating.
We have also included some Native Australian plants to green the space up. The two types of plants used are Eremphilia (Magenta Dream) , a drought hardy plant that produces beautiful pink flowers during late winter and into spring. The second plant is Westringia Glabra which will produce violet and white flowers for most of the year.
On the wall of the garden you will notice the prayers Our Father and Hail Mary which are translated in local Gumbaynggirr language, a tribute to our local indigenous community.
The space is now open and staff and students are welcomed to utilise and enjoy the garden during class time and during the breaks.
